PHofNC History Lesson

In early 1989, Scott Nickerson, then of Atlanta, GA, decided he had met so many great people “tailgating” before Buffett concerts that he should create a social environment to get those pholks together more than once a year. His idea was to form a Parrot Head Club (a non-traditional fan club) that would provide volunteer support for community and environmental concerns. By the end of 1992, clubs had emerged in NYC, Orlando, Detroit, Beaumont, TX and New Orleans.

Parrot Heads of North Carolina (PHofNC) was formed in 1994, by our phounder, Whit Procter. A result of brainstorming & chatting online with other PH’s, he realized that there were certainly enough phans in NC to start a club. The first official club party was October of 1994 at the Lake Boone Country Club… Captain Cook & the Coconuts played, and there have been too many to count since then!

PHofNC was the first club in North Carolina…now there are 9! PHofNC has endured the test of time with several original members still on the roster, as well as many new faces in our phlock. Our charity efforts continue to grow every year, as does our membership now over 150 strong (and that doesn’t even include our “keets”)!
